Job Description

The IP Backhaul Senior Specialist is responsible for providing advanced technical support and troubleshooting for IP-based backhaul networks used in mobile network. This role ensures high availability, reliability, and performance of backhaul infrastructure by diagnosing complex issues, implementing solutions, and collaborating with engineering teams for network optimization.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide Level 2 support for IP backhaul network issues, including routers, switches, and microwave/IP transport systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network faults related to IP/MPLS, Ethernet, and QoS configurations.
  • Analyze packet flows and perform root cause analysis using tools like Wireshark, SNMP, and NetFlow.

Network Maintenance & Optimization

  • Monitor network performance and proactively identify potential bottlenecks or failures.
  • Implement configuration changes and software upgrades to maintain network stability.
  • Ensure compliance with SLAs and KPIs for backhaul performance.

On-Call Support

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical network outages and page alerts

Incident Management

  • Take ownership of critical customer issues, diagnose problems, perform root cause analysis, and manage cases through to resolution within agreed-upon service level agreements (SLAs).

Collaboration and Escalation

  • Work closely with NOC, field engineers, and vendor support teams to resolve escalated issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior support staff.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, resolutions, and network changes.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommend improvements for network resilience.

 

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience: 10+ years in IP networking and backhaul support within telecom environments.
  • Strong knowledge of IP/MPLS, Ethernet, VLAN, QoS, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
  • Familiarity with microwave/IP transport technologies and synchronization (PTP, SyncE).
  • Proficiency in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Certifications: CCNP, CCIE, Nokia service routing certification SRC or equivalent preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Working with multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia).
  • Experience in mobile backhaul for LTE/5G networks.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
  • Hands-on experience with carrier-grade routing and switching hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Nokia).
